eUICC (Embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card)

Also known as: Embedded UICC

The eUICC is a secure element, embedded or removable, whose profile contents can be provisioned and managed remotely over the air rather than physically swapped. Standardised by GSMA (SGP.21/22 for consumer, SGP.01/02 for M2M), it hosts one or more operator profiles and enforces profile isolation, making it the hardware root of trust for eSIM and iSIM deployments.

Subscriber identifiers (IMSI, SUPI, MSISDN, IMEI) anchor authentication, charging and lawful interception. Any protocol that leaks a permanent identifier is treated as a privacy defect, which is why 5G introduced SUCI concealment on the air interface.
