TPS (Telecom Policy Service)

TPS is variously used in telecom for Transactions Per Second (a throughput measure for signalling and charging systems) and for Telecom Policy Service in some operator contexts. The intended meaning depends on the surrounding documentation; both usages are common and should be disambiguated by context.

TPS in context

The radio access network is where mobile devices attach to the operator's infrastructure. Attacks in this layer include IMSI catching, rogue base stations and downgrade attacks; defenses rest on mutual authentication, integrity-protected signaling and Open RAN supply-chain hygiene.

OSS/BSS platforms hold the highest-value subscriber and revenue data on the operator side, are heavily targeted for fraud and insider abuse, and are in scope for NIS2 and the UK Telecoms Security Act.

To place TPS in the wider telecom-security picture, review Billing System, BSS, Data Localization, DRP, MAC Address and Mediation System — each entry cross-references back to this page so you can walk the topic in either direction.
