Data Localization

Data localisation is the requirement, increasingly common in national legislation, that certain categories of personal or sensitive data must be stored and processed within the country's borders. For multinational telecom operators it complicates cloud strategy, OSS/BSS architecture, and incident-response logistics, and intersects with cross-border data-transfer regulations such as GDPR.

Data Localization in context

The radio access network is where mobile devices attach to the operator's infrastructure. Attacks in this layer include IMSI catching, rogue base stations and downgrade attacks; defenses rest on mutual authentication, integrity-protected signaling and Open RAN supply-chain hygiene.

Moving network functions off dedicated hardware into NFV, Kubernetes and Open RAN reshapes the threat model. Isolation now depends on hypervisor, container and service-mesh controls plus image and Helm-chart supply-chain security.
