ONAP (Open Network Automation Platform)

Also known as: Open Network Automation Platform

ONAP is a Linux Foundation open-source project providing a policy-driven service orchestration and automation platform for physical and virtual network functions. It covers design, orchestration, closed-loop assurance and lifecycle management, and is used by several operators as the basis for 5G core orchestration, network slicing and edge automation, often mapped to ETSI NFV MANO and ZSM concepts.

ONAP in context

The mobile core carries subscriber sessions, mobility and policy. In 4G it is the EPC (MME, HSS, S/PGW); in 5G it is the Service-Based Architecture with AMF, SMF, UPF, AUSF, UDM and the NRF.
