eMBB (enhanced Mobile Broadband)

eMBB is the 5G service category focused on high per-user throughput and dense broadband coverage: peak data rates in the multi-Gbit/s range, high spectral efficiency and support for demanding consumer and enterprise applications such as 4K/8K video, immersive media and fixed wireless access. eMBB is the first commercial 5G workload and drives most current NR deployments.

The radio access network is where mobile devices attach to the operator's infrastructure. Attacks in this layer include IMSI catching, rogue base stations and downgrade attacks; defenses rest on mutual authentication, integrity-protected signaling and Open RAN supply-chain hygiene.
