Cipher Downgrade Attack

A cipher downgrade attack manipulates a security negotiation so that the parties end up using a weaker cipher than they would otherwise choose, opening the way to subsequent cryptanalysis. Examples include FREAK and Logjam against TLS, and forced fallback from A5/3 to A5/1 in GSM. Modern protocols (TLS 1.3, 5G AKA) explicitly bind negotiated parameters to defeat downgrades.
