Non-RT RIC (Non-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller)

The Non-RT RIC is the O-RAN control-loop function embedded in the SMO framework that hosts rApps and drives RAN policy, ML model management and configuration on timescales of 1 s or more, over the A1 interface toward the Near-RT RIC and O1/O2 toward network functions and cloud. It is the anchor for AI/ML-driven RAN automation in Open RAN.

Non-RT RIC in context
The radio access network is where mobile devices attach to the operator's infrastructure. Attacks in this layer include IMSI catching, rogue base stations and downgrade attacks; defenses rest on mutual authentication, integrity-protected signaling and Open RAN supply-chain hygiene.
