Edge Computing

In telecommunications, Edge Computing is the placement of compute, storage, and applications close to the radio access or aggregation sites to reduce latency and backhaul use. In mobile networks it is realized through MEC, enabling use cases such as industrial automation, AR/VR, and local breakout for enterprise traffic.

Edge Computing in context

The radio access network is where mobile devices attach to the operator's infrastructure. Attacks in this layer include IMSI catching, rogue base stations and downgrade attacks; defenses rest on mutual authentication, integrity-protected signaling and Open RAN supply-chain hygiene.
